Choosing a sleeping bag is no easy task, as there are many criteria to take into account if you really want a sleeping bag that meets your needs.

The Tchao Tchao editorial team has some advice on how to choose the right sleeping bag for your needs.

1) Using the sleeping bag

Choosing a sleeping bag is no easy task, as there are many criteria to take into account if you really want a sleeping bag that meets your needs.

To choose the right sleeping bag, there are 4 essential points to consider:

Team hiker or trekking enthusiast?

Are you more of a Sunday hiker or a trekking and extreme adventure enthusiast?

If you've recognized yourself as a Sunday hiker and want a sleeping bag for a weekend camping trip, you don't need a competition sleeping bag.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a real travel companion that will accompany you on your adventures and that you'll be using frequently, then you'll need to take into account a number of criteria, such as the outside temperature, the composition of the sleeping bag and also your build.

2) Sleeping bag shape

Straight bowl or sarcophagus?

To choose the right sleeping bag shape, you need to take the outside temperature into account. Sleeping bags come in two shapes: the classic straight-cut and the funnel-shaped sarcophagus.

A sleeping bag with a straight shape is preferable when you're going to a place where the temperature is moderate, as it will be breathable and allow air to circulate.

The sarcophagus sleeping bag, on the other hand, keeps the heat in, especially in the feet, so it's a good choice if you're going to cold places.

 3) Sleeping bag composition

Polyester, cotton or feather filling?

After selecting the shape of your sleeping bag, pay attention to its composition. Basic sleeping bags are usually made of polyester or cotton, which are fairly breathable materials.

Sleeping bags with a sarcophagus shape, on the other hand, are better suited to bivouacs. They are mostly made from polyester, which is easy to care for, and feather, which makes the sleeping bag compact and lightweight.

4) A sleeping bag adapted to your build

We tend to forget that sleeping bags come in different sizes. Just like clothing, it's important to feel comfortable in your sleeping bag, so choose one that's not too big or too small, or you risk reducing its effectiveness.

We hope these tips will help you enjoy a good night's sleep snuggled up in your sleeping bag.

See you soon for more adventures!
